Read the full tofu description before comparing firm blocks
Firm tofu is a texture description, but it does not identify one universal calorie value. USDA’s historic records distinguish several preparations and coagulant descriptions. This profile reads those entries as specific reference foods, then uses a transparent example to show why two packages both labeled firm still need their own product information.

Keep the preparation words attached
SR Legacy record 172448 describes firm tofu prepared with calcium sulfate and magnesium chloride, at 78 kcal per 100 g. Record 172475 describes raw firm tofu prepared with calcium sulfate, at 144 kcal per 100 g. These are two separate historical food descriptions. Do not merge them into an average called firm tofu or choose the lower result because its first two words match. The difference identifies a matching problem to investigate, not proof that one package has been mislabeled.
Separate texture from the whole formulation
The soft counterpart in record 172449 is 61 kcal per 100 g, while the fried-tofu record 172451 is 270 kcal per 100 g. The word fried describes another preparation, not a stronger degree of firmness. Keep such entries out of a comparison intended to describe plain blocks. A practical shopping note can preserve the package name, ingredient description and preparation state together. A photograph of a white rectangle rarely supplies all those details, even when its texture looks similar to a familiar product.
Use an example that states its chosen record
For a hypothetical 150 g amount matching record 172448, the arithmetic is 78 multiplied by 1.5, or 117 kcal. The same illustrative weight using record 172449 gives 91.5 kcal. These figures demonstrate scaling particular inputs; they do not prescribe a tofu serving or establish the actual composition of an unexamined brand. Write the record ID beside the calculation so another reader can reconstruct why that input was selected instead of assuming all tofu uses the same reference.
Keep calcium and allergy questions separate
A coagulant description can help identify an entry, but this energy-only profile does not calculate calcium or settle an individual dietary requirement. Read the relevant nutrient data and current product label if that is the actual question. Soy suitability likewise needs ingredient and individual-allergy information, not a calorie comparison. The useful result is an honest match with a visible limitation. If the current package differs, use its own information rather than forcing a historic generic entry to stand in for every modern tofu product.
Illustrative worked example
Illustrative comparison: A cook finds two firm-tofu results and initially treats them as duplicates. They retain both full descriptions, select the one appropriate to the hypothetical exercise and calculate 117 kcal for 150 g at 78 kcal per 100 g. The other entry remains a different reference, not an error to delete. The scenario is arithmetic practice and makes no recommendation about how much tofu a person should eat or which coagulant is better.
Questions that come up
Does firm always mean 144 kcal per 100 g?
No. The historic dataset contains multiple firm-tofu descriptions with different values. Match the complete food or use the actual current product information.
Can the calorie value tell me the calcium content?
No. Energy and calcium are different data fields. Consult appropriate nutrient information rather than deriving one from the other.
